Quebec City is located in the eastern province of Canada. Since this is the oldest city in Canada, its history cannot be underestimated. The bilingual policy is one of the significant policies that have greatly impacted the linguistic and social systems of Quebec City especially in regards to European culture. Quebec City was discovered in 1608 by the French explorer Samuel de Champlain. Before the French invasion of Canada in 1604, the current Quebec City was a residence for a small village that was known as Stadacona. The Canadian government established official bilingualism in 1867 through an amendment of the constitution, and it is at this point that both English and French became the official languages in Canada. Since Quebec City attracted both the French and English speaking settlers, the city became a multicultural hub with both French and English acquiring an almost equal status in all the domains of life.
Thesis
Since the inception of the bilingualism policy in Quebec City, bilingualism has continued to change the lives of the people living in Quebec City especially their ethnography of communication as well as their cultural lives.
Impact on communication
Language is meant for communication, and therefore the most significant benefit that bilingualism policy has had on the residents of Quebec City is to facilitate effective and efficient communication. People irrespective of their origin are able to communicate and interact easily since they can communicate both English and French. Apparently, just like English, French is compulsory in the Canadian education system. The government has since the introduction of the bilingual policy established many French schools in the city of Quebec. As a result, French has become one of the most common languages in the city. Therefore, the children in Quebec city are simultaneous early bilinguals since they learn both English and French at the same time from birth. Therefore, based on whether the family speaks French or English, these children are likely to grow up with an equal mastery of both French and English. As such, there is no language barrier irrespective of whether the parents are native English or French speakers. This has greatly boosted the level of communication and interaction between the people.
According to Adesope, Lavin, Thompson & Ungerleider (2010), language is a powerful tool that has the ability to shape the people’s thoughts and perceptions in their everyday experiences. Many aspects of human communication depend on language that an individual uses. At a social level, therefore, language helps people understand their social environment and the events that take place in their environment. This, therefore, means that bilinguals posit a better understanding of their environment especially in regards to communication repertoire and interactions. Speaking more than one language serves as a springboard in understanding higher order cognitive and social human process. In aspects such as conflict control, bilingualism has played a significant role in ensuring that the French and the English speakers coexist despite their cultural differences. Therefore, when people are able to speak each other’s language there is always a viable communicative event. Therefore, bilingualism has been the major reason for peace and tranquility in Quebec City (RAMAN, 2009).
Impact of culture
Language and culture are inseparable entities that exist in a symbiotic relationship. The relationship between culture and language is best described by Hymer using the term dinomia. In his book on ethnography of communication, Hymer asserts that cultural beliefs and practices are best expressed through language. Every culture is language specific. Therefore, communication repertoire differs from one culture to the other. An individual can best understand each other’s culture if they know their language. Bilingualism in Quebec City has greatly promoted cultural diversity (Chigon Kim, 2013). The residents of Quebec City have been able to coexist mainly due to their ability to speak each other’s language, there is no communication barrier or breakdown, and as a result, there is mutual understanding and cooperation all the time. It is worth noting that culture is a socially acquired knowledge and this means that every society has its own unique culture as a property. Therefore this knowledge is acquired through language. The ways of life of other people are best understood in their linguistic norms and practices. Language cats as the vehicle in which cultural values, practices, and beliefs are transmitted.
This means that for language to be used efficiently in the society, the data has to be supplied by the society where an individual is born. In this case, language cannot exist if this cultural data is not availed. Similarly, cultural expression and transmission is not possible if the linguistic norms are not available (Takakuwa, 2000). This form of mutual dependency between culture and language enhances diversity. The fact that the people in Quebec City are able to speak both English and French brings a feeling of togetherness, and the people view themselves as of one origin since they can speak each other’s language.
According to Paradis and Lacharité (2008), the number of Quebecers who speak English as their only mother tongue has decreased from 7.7% to 7.5%. These statistics show that even in families that are predominantly English speaking, French has been adopted as a day to day language. It is, therefore, an indication that the people in Quebec City are becoming more linguistically diverse, and this has been enhanced by the bilingualism policies.
The Canadian government has been encouraging its citizens to learn French to enable them to understand the French culture better. This positive embrace towards the French culture is also improving the social sectors in Canada such as the food sector, tourism, and even sports.
Effect on the economy
Today, French restaurants are on the rise, and this is offering job opportunities to the Canadians. Moreover, there is an influx of French investors in Canada, and this is considered a highly beneficial way since it is greatly boosting the economy. The appreciation of the French culture in Canada has enhanced viable bilateral relationship between the two countries. There has been therefore a big boost on the economy of the Canada. Canadians and French can easily trade in each other’s country through the foreign direct investment. In this case, bilingualism has transformed from a social facet to an economic entity that is greatly enhancing the economic growth of Canada.
Conclusion
The enactment and the implementation of the bilingual policy by the Canadian government reveal that Canada is a multicultural country. In an era where globalization is at its apogee, it is important that people embrace cultural diversity as a strength and not a weakness. It is essential that people coexist irrespective of their linguistic differences. Therefore, setting up a bilingual policy was the most important step towards enhancing diversity and coexistence between the French and English speakers living in Canada. It is evident that the bilingual policy continues to bring major advantages and benefits to the people. It is through this policy that Canada’s economic, social and political aspects have improved significantly. Bilingualism has changed and continues to change the lives of most Canadians. Apparently, the increased intermarriages between the English and the French-speaking Canadians is clear evidence that Canadians through the bilingual policy have finally learned to capitalize on their differences as assets rather than weaknesses.

Dara Khosrowshahi was born in Iran in a well of family. Together with his family, they ran out of their country when there was an Iranian revolution and settled in New York. He worked at Allen & company as an analyst after he graduated from Brown University. He later landed at a job at Barry Diller internet holding company. After the terrorist attacks in a September 2002 his company purchased a portion of the Expedia Company that became independent in2005 under the leadership of Khosrowshahi.
Dara Khosrowshahi took over the role of a CEO in Uber Company at the end of august and he left his job as the CEO of Expedia after he had worked there for a substantial period of time. He took over the office from Travis Kalaniki who was a controversial and strong willed. During the first month of office, Dara clarified that he is a kind of person who once has succeeded leadership, he would not continue with the previous regimes legacy. In changing Uber to its new tone, he did the following.
1. He showed some susceptibility
In a note to the staff of Expedia, he said” I have to tell you I am scared, I have been here at Expedia for so long that I have forgotten what life is like outside this place. But the times of greatest learning for me have been when I have been through big changes, or taken on new roles. You have to move out of your comfort zone and develop muscles that you didn’t know you had. He was not aware that this admission was made to the public, and now that the public was aware of this, his new staff recognized that this was a sign of bringing change and shaping the lost glory of Uber. They believed that they had got a CEO whose soft touch and sensitivity would bring a balance and eradicate Kalanick’s era

2. He resigned from The New York Times Board
Khosrowshahi was a member of the board of directors of The New York Times. Once he took the role of the CEO of Uber, the stepped down from the position. This happened according to SEC filing, as a result of increased responsibilities. This was not a deliberate affront but the step was worth the course. This is because the Times had closely covered up events of Ubers downfall struggles. Were it not that he resigned, a conflict of interest would have arose.
3. He laid an emphasis on inclusivity and diversity.
One of the contentious issues that plagued the public image for Uber was the lack diversity of the workforce at the company where women and other minority groups had not been included.
The new CEO demonstrated that he would bring a change and will be committed to diversity and inclusion.
4. He provided free Uber rides in Mexico.
Uber, under the regime of the new CEO provided and donated pesos to the Red Cross in Mexico after the country was hit by an earthquake. This enhanced the goodwill of the company since donations made to areas affected by catastrophes creates a more friendly image.
5. He made apologies to London and went ahead to work it out.
Towards the end of September, London made a decision to bun Uber. Khosrowshahi immediately wrote an open apologetic letter that said” whole Uber has revolutionized the way people move in cities and around the world, its equally true that we’ve got things wrong along the way. On behalf of everyone at Uber globally, I apologize for the mistakes we’ve made” he then made a promise “We won’t be perfect but we will listen to you; we will look to be long term partners with the cities we serve; and we will run our business with humility, integrity and passion.” Uber hence used humility and integrity as its arsenal.
6. He condemned the behavior of the previous CEO
Members of the board had been appointed unexpectedly on 29 September. Khosrowshahi informed the employees through a note and he called the action as “disappointing news.” Khosrowshahi showed a different approach to things during the first month with a different leadership style.
The kind of approach used Khosrowshahi is admirable and can lead to greater achievements if implemented properly. Eight months down the line after he took over, Khosrowshahi has delved in a prolonged changeover campaign in the world concerning the company. His twitter feed is full of photos of the people oriented CEO engaging with leaders globally, taking selfies with drivers and campaigning for justice and diversity with his employers.

First, develop a statement that encompasses an overall picture of your values and ethics. Are your values based on family, health, achievements, wealth, job success, happiness, faith, love, or anything else that you hold in great esteem? Think of your value statement as what defines you as a person. Describe your understanding of the origin of the values you hold important. Try to describe your ethical beliefs. If possible, offer a story to illustrate your ethical behavior. Try to explain the roots of your ethical beliefs, where they came from, how you were influenced, whether any particular events in your life greatly impacted your beliefs. Have your ethical beliefs undergone any major changes? If so, describe what they were and why they changed.

Second, drawing on the various ethical frameworks we have studied this term—utilitarianism, deontology, etc—explain your ethical perspective. You do not need to limit yourself to one ethical framework and can draw from more than one. If you draw from more than one framework, you will need to explain your reasoning in your answer. Be sure to reconcile any contradictions between these perspectives (for example, utilitarianism vs. virtue ethics). Use the textbook as evidence in this section of your paper as a form of support.
