Professional Scenarios

1. Saban is a top performing industrial equipment salesperson for D2D. After three years of working with his best client, he receives a text message from Pat (his direct manager) assigning him to a completely different account. Pat has received complaints that Saban gets all of the good clients and is not a “team player.” Saban responds to the message and asks for a meeting with Pat to discuss this change. Pat responds with another text message that reads: Decision final. Everyone needs to get a chance to work with the best accounts so it is fair. Come by the office and pick up your new files. Moments later, Saban sends a text message to Karen, his regional manager and Pat’s boss. It simply reads, “We need to talk.”

The opening paragraph is important.  How can you get your reader's attention and respect in the very first paragraph?

Next, you’ll want to choose the best solution.  You’ll want to choose a solution that could actually be employed, and one in which the benefits outweigh the costs.  You’ll also want to think about how you can deal with the typical opposing responses (such as “Things are fine,” “It’s not that big of a problem,” “People won’t do it,” “We can’t afford it,” etc.).

Finally, spend a little time thinking about your audience, the readers of your local newspaper.  You’ll want ask yourself questions such as:  What do they already know about the problem?  Do they already consider this a significant problem?  Are they aware of some of the solutions that have been discussed?  What kinds of biases might they have about this issue?  How can I best reach these people and minimize opposition to my solution?

Once you’ve thoroughly worked through the above issues and questions, writing the letter should be a piece of cake.  As you’re drafting, keep in mind the following:

1.) The opening paragraph is important.  How can you get your reader’s attention and respect in the very first paragraph?

2.) The problem should be clearly defined (or described) before you propose your solution.  The harms (or negative effects) of the problem and who specifically suffers from these negative effects should be clear.

3.) The solution should be a detailed as possible.  Consider all of the steps that would have to be taken.  Consider all of the costs.  Consider all of the benefits.  Be as specific as you possibly can.  Be prepared to explain why this solution is better than other alterrnative solutions.

Here are two questions for you to choose from; answer only One in an 8 page essay. Be sure to give page number (s) when quoting from any sources.

1. Public personnel administration in the U.S. has gone through several phases of evolution and devolution, from the beginning of the government to the present. Explain:
(a) These historical periods;
(b) Discuss how the U.S. Civil Service System came about, changed, evolved, and devolved.
(c) What changes/reforms have affected the Civil Service Systems, with what provisions?
(d) How have these changes affected the public values, public interests, and public trust?
(e) Explain three major public/democratic/political values of public personnel management against two competing managerial/organizational values; and finally,
Has globalization affected these values? Explain how.

2. Write an essay titled “Challenges of Public Personnel Administration:
(a) Legal/Constitutional/Judicial Oversight, and Judicial Doctrines;
(b) Strategic Civil Service Reforms;
(c) Affirmative Action and Diversity;
(d) Bureaucracy and Democracy; and

Has globalization, privatization, and the market model affected these challenges? How? Explain.

Did you select beak sizes for diversity OR to better equip the birds for the foods available in the southwest isl, and environment?

ASSIGNMENT 1- Underst, anding Natural Selection
What you turn in: (pages 4-5)
NAME:_________________________________ Score__________
3. Describe your starting population (phenotypes):
POPULATION COLOR SIZE BEAK
1 N= 300 light green medium Slight curve
2 N= 300
light green medium Curved
3 N= 300 light green medium Medium Curve
N= The number of individuals making up the population; usually 300 each. You may need to wait for these numbers until after the 500,000 years has passed (the numbers will show up in the comparison of before , and after).
Did you select beak sizes for diversity OR to better equip the birds for the foods available in the southwest isl, and environment?
Yes, I selected the beak sizes to better determine the varieties of food available at the southwest environment. The beaks are chosen as an adaptive mechanism to different types of food which exist in the southwest environment. The birds which will contain traits which enhance their fitness are more likely to survive, and reproduce hence their continued existence. Those birds with traits which do not enhance fitness are more likely to fail to adapt to their new environment hence are more likely to become extinct. The projected simulation represents 500000 years, and this is the period in which any form of mutation is evident for observation using the naked eye.

A mountain range separates the southwest environment from the rest of the isl, and. This type of isolation can lead to SYMPATRIC or ALLOPATRIC ( Bird 2 Bird 1 Bird 3

7. You ran the initial (all green) birds in one environment for 500,000 years…then you ran the post- hurricane birds for another 500,000 years. Usually, the ending bird populations show greater diversity. Was this the case for your simulation? YES NO
What explains your results?
Yes, the population with higher levels of diversity was bird one, and there was a continuous increase in their number.

Was your prediction (above) correct?
Yes. My prediction was correct
Which of the environments has the greatest, final, number of birds? (circle one>) SOUTHEAST NORTHWEST NORTHEAST what do you think is the reason for bird success in this environment?
North East has the greatest number of birds due to a higher availability of food, and light green foliage which act as a hideout for the birds.

8. In terms of natural selection, how important is the environment?
Environment plays an important role in natural selection. First, it offers determines the kind of food available in it for natural selection to take place. Secondly, it plays an important role in harboring of species hence the climatic condition of such a place an important role in natural selection. Thirdly, disease prevalence is different depending on geographical location, , and this determines those that are resistant to diseases to attain natural selection.

Routine Eye Examination Ad
This is a Youtube published advert aimed at encouraging routine eye check-ups in eye hospitals and eye clinics. It is an advert done by EyeSmart organization in association with American Academy of Ophthalmology (Eye Smart Organization 2010). The primary target audience in this advert is the population in the society which waits until they have eye problems for them to pay a visit to an eye clinic. According to the American Academy of Opthalmology, some of the eye problems such as open-angle glaucoma do not show symptoms until irreversible eye damage has occurred (Boyd and McKinney, 2017). Using deductive reasoning, it is, therefore, prudent to visit an eye clinic routinely to prevent any asymptomatic eye health problems from progressing and causing a disability.
This advert may have an enormous impact on different cohorts of consumer decision-making units. One of such influence will occur on sons and daughters who will advise their aging parents to seek eye examination more frequently than previously done. Children will also pressure their parents to be taken for eye check-up following the advert.
Finally, this advert will change consumer’s health-seeking behavior from visiting an eye clinic only when an individual is sick to visiting an eye clinic even when an individual is not ill for preventive purpose rather than the curative purposes which are frequently sorted for among people seeking medical assistance in eye hospitals.

LANGUAGE AND LITERATURE
Reader, culture, and text
It is indubitably clear that Roy is one of the most prolific authors who have demonstrated and portrayed the cultural society in current and contemporary wolrd. In his Novel, The God of small things, the controversial author has necessitated culture to take a focused roe in the development of the themes and its roles. It is portrayed that Baby kochamma wants to live a very good life free of sin and secrets from others. It is evident that he is striving to culturally live an honorable life which is generally acceptable(Page 6). It is shown that Velutha is also known as The God of Loss which meant that she is lonely and with no companion. Fact of her being referred to as a god signifies that they also hold religious beliefs.
When the families are driving to Cochin, a strong political conflict exists between the opponents vieing for various posts. The Culture of struggling for power proves that the communities are used to this kind of lifestyle(Page 4). Rahel on the other hand, is viewed insulting Ammu. This portrays that Rahel like lying to people in order to make them nervous. Also the police officers beating Vuletha without much investigation is a sign of negligence in job responsibility(Page 8).
Estha likes singing and he encounters a lemon drinker who usually sleeps at the counter, when he heard his song, he called him behind the counter,he responded that he had no pocket money in him. The man seems surprised and thus culturally unfamiliar about the pocket money given to children (Page 108). Rahel transcends cultural boundary by going to USA to study. Rahel and Estha are unhappy during their child hood as the feel the Indian culture is very different from British colonial legacy.
Ammus father, though he had retired from working for government in Delhi after many years where he worked was as an imperial entomologist. He retired and went to live at Ayemenem together with his wife, Chacko who he is his son and Ammu. He was accustomed to wearing suits which was three pieced designed together with a gold watch for pocket(Page 9). Further more, Ammus father never rode a horse. He appreciated the Indian culture since when he was working and when retired, he held the culture with virtue.
Women are also portrayed that they had to hide their identities when they are married and move to their houses. This is because their culture stated that a marriage that bend in divorce will give rise to interaction between their Indian culture and the wife’s culture who was English and Christian for that fact and the reason being English culture was viewed as for the colonizers and therefore portrayed as having more power than Indians.
In the novel also, it is portrayed that the Indians do not provide any jobs for women apart from being regarded as wives and from the in-laws. These changes are not powerful enough to the natural established order though to some extent in which a particular individual action affects their social reactions while remaining particularly the ultimate punishments for their wrong commitments. The philosophy of Hindu women passive resistance portrays sufferings. These women have no choice, although Western interpretations challenge this deeply socio-religious rooted belief. Also Some of the other women should help the Indian ladies from such typecasting and promote more direct actions.A woman for instance, is not allowed and never expected to live outside her marriage.
The conflicting interest of man and woman in the society as a result of self-asserting women, who are engrossed in fervent search for their identity is the hall-mark of modern portrayal of female characters. But Most of the female do not agree to be restricted by the laws set an extremely protective community. For instance; Ammu who is a Christian marries Bengali from the other family who are non-Christians. When her husband loses the job, His boss told him that he will fix him somewhere else if he agrees to sleep with his wife. When he presents this indecent proposal to Ammu and beats her when she refuses. So she divorces him and returns to his parent’s home. Ammu’s returning back to her parents’ home deprives her of any social position or prestige, of any privileges. In fact, she is not welcomed as she expected. She however realized the conservative mindset which the members and other family relations exhibit. She is a central point but still determined to enter the forbidden territory to love and being loved by an untouchable- Velutha. At this act, she becomes unpardonable and makes herself susceptible to the deliberate humiliation to which she is subjected by the police Inspector as well as her own family members. Gender discrimination is clearly evidenced in the Novel. Ironically, some exogamous marriages are considered more desirable than other marriages. Baby Kochamma despises Ammu’s husband for being Bengali and Hindu and dislikes her twins for being “Half-Hindu Hybrids whom no self-respecting Syrian Christian would ever marry but at the same time she admires Chacko for having married an Englishwoman and for having fathered a beach-colored little angel. In the novel, Ammu is condemned while her very own brother Chacko is pardoned for exactly the same crime of exogamy resulting in divorce.

I must admit that this semester is going to be one of my most challenging semesters. With the challenging economic times my guardian is finding it difficult to pay my fee. I will be trying to juggle between studies and work with an aim that by the end of this semester, I will chip in half of my school fees. I will also be seeking to achieve a GPA of at least 3.8 and above. Achieving a GPA of 3.8 will enable me to be legible for college scholarship next semester and assure me of a sponsorship in my next academic level and later my dream career.
Pursuing Medicine is dream that I would not wish to forfeit. It is in line with my life dream; to help others live a life of peace and harmony. This is very important to me as I believe it will bring satisfaction and a feeling of completeness to me. However, I find it a bit challenging to juggle studies and work. It requires operating under tight schedules that at times affects my study patterns and concentration span. And ultimately affects my grades by the end of the semester.
I am confident that working with you will help me adjust my schedules in a way that befits the lectures, timetable, research and extra time for group work. Your commitment to class work has always challenged me to research deeper into avenues of knowledge I have never thought before. You company, skill and commitment is an asset that will help me plan my time and achieve my grades.
Though a close friend, I have been reluctant to request you to work with me. This to me sounded like a big task. Please help me prepare a schedule that includes 20 hrs a week for work outside college. Make sure it fits into your schedule. Create a few hours for group work for me and you. Help me attach a copy of our lectures’ timetable. I also request that you sketch for me a reading work plan for the semester’s book content. I know you’ve worked while studying before, please advise me on how best I can manage my time to maximize grades and still earn well.
Assertiveness has thought me to identify my needs and identify the right people to work with to achieve my goals. I have been confident to express my needs to a friend who I strongly believed helped me achieve my goals. We worked together to establish studying goals and desired grades. Establishing and pursuing goals to achieve my dreams has bolstered my self-confidence and helped me win the respect of my peers. I now find it easy to express my needs and believe that they are legitimate.
I intend to establish more sincere and honest communication with friends more honest. Assertiveness has boosted my self esteem and confidence and to effectively express my feelings, and needs. I can now interact with peers at group work and accept responsibility for my failure without feeling alienated. I have also gained confidence and learnt not to seek approval for class work I have researched. I have managed to establish a concrete emotional balance and a mutual problem solving approach.

The weird sisters’ predictions for Macbeth and Banquo

Macbeth’s murder of Banquo

The appearance of Banquo’s ghost at Macbeth’s coronation dinner Chapter 5 of Cosmopolitanism contains the real meat of Appiah’s argument. He’s
neither arguing in favor of a universal set of human values that we can all agree upon,
nor suggesting that we ought to trade in our local cultural identity for some
transnational world citizenship. People can live harmoniously without agreeing with
another on principles or even why they think harmony is worthwhile. The goal seems to
be to learn about each other, but not necessarily to change each other’s minds. What’s
the value he sees in cross cultural conversation? How does it facilitate harmony without
necessarily changing people’s views? What do you make of his claims? Why?

Rather than emphasize all of the negative aspects, he focuses on the strengths of the American education system and how we can accentuate those to our advantage as a nation.   I have some questions about this research, though.   Specifically, I am curious how the various tests gauge what is “good” education.   I can see this source fitting into my key idea about the general education learning that a student in college must to be successful in higher education and in a career field (Evaluate).

My city is Shenzhen. Shenzhen is one of the major cities which is located in the province of Guangdong, China. The city has various economic activities which in one way or another contribute to resources which need to be recycled to ensure the clean environment is achieved. These activities include tourism which is perceived to be quite an abundant resource as there are numerous parks. The city as well is developed with numerous shopping areas and hotels which ensure that residents and visitors get accommodations at affordable rates.
The various recyclable resources in Shenzhen city include the glasses which have been used by the residents and guests. In addition, papers and metals as well are the most recycled products in the city. In carrying out the recycling of these products, they are composed while others which are perceived to be biodegradable waste which includes food and garden waste are also recycled by decomposing. The major company in Shenzhen carrying put recycling of these resources is the Wuhan GEM Resources Recycling Co., Ltd.
With the increase in wastes in Shenzhen city, the collection of garbage weekly has been found to be the best solution as it will ensure that those waste are gotten rid of through incineration by the municipal authority. In carrying out this, each of the household living in the city will have to pay the garbage collection fees (In Scherer, 2014). The individuals who are perceived to be inside the special economic zones are charged 13.5 Yuan which is equivalent to 1.66 United States dollars in a month. Individuals deemed to be living in business zones are charges 12.5 Yuan.
There are various challenges when carrying out recycling of these resources. It can be noted that some individuals lack education, as they are not aware of some of the damages wastes, can cause to the environment. In this regards, most of the individuals does not see any importance of recycling and proper disposal of wastes. Coherently, it can be seen that the lack of education limits the progress of environment conservation since they are not unsure of things which can be recycled and those which can be incinerated.
Additionally, some recycling services are very expensive and thus not affordable to the residents. In this regards, the residents may decide to keep their own garbage and dispose of them off in the possible way they can as the only right disposing authority s way too expensive for them. Notably, some services offered are inadequate since there is no sufficient recycling help to go round. This implies that only part are undergoing resource recycling while other parts does not (In Singh & In Sarkar, 2015).
In order to ensure that the recycling processes are very successful, individuals should be first educated on matters of the environment. This includes informing them about the importance associated with the recycling of resources which have been used. In addition, the costs of services should be ensured to be affordable for the locals. The costs of collection should be based on the income of individuals so that they cannot feel the burden while paying for the collection and incineration of the garbage. Most importantly, the municipal authority of Shenzhen should ensure that the sufficiency of the recycling processes is achieved. This can be attained through proper planning of collection and setting collection hours so that all the garbage is availed for collection and incineration.
